Budget Referendum Failed

By a vote of 471 (Yes) to 591 (No) the proposed Town of Bolton Budget for 2014-2015 failed to pass at yesterday’s referendum.  The next referendum will take place Tuesday, May 20th from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Town Hall.  The Board of Finance will hold a very important meeting on Monday, May 12th at 7:15 p.m. at Town Hall.  At this meeting, the BOF will decide how much money to cut from the proposed budget in advance of the next referendum.  We strongly urge all parents to attend this meeting and voice their support for a budget that adequately funds our schools.  The BOF had already significantly reduced the proposed Board of Education budget prior to the first referendum and now the BOF must make further cuts to the BOE budget.  The PTA’s Parent’s Guide to the Bolton Budget Process will be updated with new numbers as soon as they become available from the BOF, but please take the time to read this important publication and understand what is at stake for our schools and our children in this budget process.
